Dhrupad School
of
Sadharani (Dagarvani)
The name Sadharani is derived from the Sadharani Geeti which has been described in the ancient texts. Sharangdev in his treatise on music describes five Geetis.
-
suddha
-
Bhinna
-
Gaudi
-
Vegswara/vesara
-
Sadharani.
The Sadharani Geeti combines the nuances of all the four Geetis and is yet quite distinct from each of the other Geetis. The Dagarvani followed by the illustrious Dagar Gharana of Dhrupad follows the Sadharani Geeti.
