 Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar

Our Gurus and the  Masters of the Sadharani Geeti Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Fariduddin  Dagar have always been a great source of Inspiration for us . 

Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar and Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar were the sons of Ustad Ziauddin Dagar of Udaipur. Ustad Ziauddin Dagar was the court musician of Udaipur Maharaj. 

Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar was born on March 14 1929. His music education began at a young age at the feet of his father, who also was an excellent Veena Player. UstadSaheb took to the veena like a fish takes to water though he was a trained singer of the highest caliber.  After the early demise of his father Ustad Saheb  moved to Mumbai.  It was in Mumbai that the plans  for making a new veena and make the veena capable of rendering the Dagarvani came to his mind. He found an able partner in Srhi Kanhaiyalal of Kolkata .There were many changes he made to the traditional veena so that it's sustenance was increased the sound became deeper and more sombre. Today most of the Veenas are based on his design.  The veena he designed and played became capable of rendering all the aspects of Sadharani Geeti. Ustad Saheb was not only a great musicaian but also a great teacher of music. His teaching methodology was unique. learning music beacame d delight with Ustad Saheb. The maestro and the great Guru passed away in 1990. Some of the illustrous students of Ustadsaheb are

His  illustrious  son Ustad Bahauddin Dagar carries forth the tradition and is one of the finest players of the instrument  today. 

Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar was born on  15 June 1932. His initial training from his father and later also got guidance from his elder brother  Ustad Za Mohiuddin Dagar . Blessed with a powerful and a voice which could span almost two and half octaves, Ustad Saheb could demonstrate all the alankaras of Dagarvani. Like his elder brother he was also a great teacher and some of the illustrous artists of today's Dhrupad scene are his students. He was the appointed the guru of the Dhrupad Kendra at Bhopal and latter was  also appointed as the Guru at "Dhurpad Sandar" establshed at IIT Mumbai.  Ustad Bahauddin Dagar sought frequent guidance from him till he passed away in 2013.
